Emma Nic Cearáin

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Emma Nic Cearáin.

Bhí Emma i Rang 5 i nGaelscoil Ultain agus bheadh sí aon bhliain déag d’aois i gceann míosa. Cailín álainn gealgháireach a bhí inti agus tá muid uilig i nGaelscoil Ultain, agus go háirithe a cairde i Rang 5, croíbhriste ina diaidh.

Emma was diagnosed with a rare children’s cancer in November 2008 and since then underwent a gruelling treatment programme. She showed great strength throughout her illness and slipped away to be at peace at 1.20a.m. this morning, Thursday 17th May 2012.

It was our privilege in Gaelscoil Ultain to witness Emma’s vibrant and warm personality on a daily basis, a unique personality that captured the hearts of the nation as she so articulately told the story of her illness and of her fundraising for Crumlin Hospital on RTE Radio 1’s John Murray Show. Her magical rendition of Bean Pháidin at last year’s school concert in the Íontas will live long in our memory.

We have support structures in place to help your child cope with this great loss. You can help your child by taking time to listen and by encouraging them to express their feelings. It is important to give factual information that is appropriate to their age.

We have made available some information sheets which you may find useful in helping your child through this difficult time.

It is important for children to maintain a normal routine so Gaelscoil Ultain will remain open tomorrow, Friday. The funeral will take place on Saturday at 2p.m. in the Cathedral. We ask you to respect the family’s wish to have the house strictly private today, Thursday. You may pay your respects tomorrow, Friday. Rang 4, 5, 6 are asked to assemble at the Cathedral at 1.30p.m. on Saturday, some of the pupils will be in the Choir and some of the pupils will form a guard of honour. Pupils are asked to wear the school uniform.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Emma’s parents, Frank and Linda, with her sister Ally in Rang 1 and her brother Ethan in Naíonáin Mhóra. We also think of Emma’s classmates in Rang 5. The Gaelscoil Ultain community will do all we can to help everyone at this very sad time.

Tá Emma imithe uainn agus í faoi shíocháin anois. Tá aingeal beag eile ar Neamh. Crothnóidh muid í, crothnóidh muid uilig í.

Tá corn Mini 7s buaite ag cailíní na scoile don tríú bliain as a chéile

Gaelscoil Ultain claimed the Girls’ 2012 Cumann na mBunscol Mini Sevens title after a thrilling day of football in Páirc Uí Néill, Clontibret.

Eight school teams had made their way to the finals’ day following regional blitzes.

Loughmourne, Glaslough, Magherarney and Scoil Rois were placed in Group A with Mullaghrafferty, Bunscoil Lughaidh Naofa, Latton and Gaelscoil Ultain in Group B. Scoil Rois beat off stiff competition in Group A to make the final while Gaelscoil Ultain made it through in Group B, having squeezed past Mullaghrafferty by a narrow margin in the opening game of the day.

The all Irish final between Gaelscoil Ultain and Scoil Rois was a ding dong battle with extra time needed to separate the sides, Gaelscoil Ultain eventually coming out on top on a 2-9 to 3-1 scoreline. Members of the Gaelscoil Ultain team look forward to the opportunity of playing in Croke Park at half-time in the big championship games this summer.

Gaelscoil Ultain Reach All-Ireland Finals

Dinny McGinley T.D. presents Niamh Mhic Giolla Chomhaill and Anna Marie Uí Chléire with the Gaelscoil Ultain awards at the Ulster Schools’ Drama Festival in Letterkenny recently.

Two plays from Gaelscoil Ultain will take part in this year’s All-Ireland Schools drama festival.

Rang 4,5,6 will present ‘Toystory, the musical’ and Naíonain Mhóra will present ‘Charlie agus an Mhonarcha Seacláide’.

Both plays were nominated from the local festival in the Garage Theatre and the Ulster Festival in the Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny.

The festival is organised annually by an Cumann Scoildrámaíochta and will be held in The Arts Centre, Mullingar during the week 25 April-3 May. 44 plays from the four provinces will take part this year. Gaelscoil Ultain will be on stage on Wednesday 25^th April at 2pm and 2.30pm.
